Wavy · The Green Bottle

Dries in soft waves rather than ringlets. Sits closer to the body. Loosens easily when you brush it, and goes flat and heavy when a shampoo is too rich for it. If your breeder said fleece, this is usually you.

Curly · The Beige Bottle

Tighter curls that spring back into shape. Holds its form when you brush it. Dries out faster than it looks like it should, and knots behind the ears and around the feet first. If your breeder said wool, this is usually you.

How does the coat behave when you brush it?

Every oodle brand says coats are different. Then they sell you one bottle for all of them.

A wavy coat and a curly coat do not go wrong in the same way. Wavy holds product, goes limp and loses its shape. Curly dries out, roughens up and knots at the ears and feet. A wash strong enough to lift a curly coat will strip a wavy one, so a single bottle has to compromise on both.

We stopped compromising and made two. It is a harder way to run a business and a much better way to wash a dog.

What a wavy coat needs

A light clean that lifts oil without weighing the coat down, so the wave stays open.

What a curly coat needs

More moisture, held for longer, so the curl stays flexible instead of going brittle.

What one bottle does

One formula for wavy, curly and everything in between. Convenient for the brand. Not necessarily for the coat.

Meet Monty — the reason Bark & Bloom exists.

Monty came into my life not long after an accident left a scar across my face. I got him as a distraction, and it worked better than expected — people stopped noticing my face and started asking about the puppy.

What I hadn't expected was to become fascinated by his coat — wavy, sun-lightened, and noticeably different from the coats of other Oodles around him. That raised a simple question: if coats behave so differently, why do we care for them as though they're all the same? So I decided to create what I couldn't find.
